Eating Seasonally Is Better for You!

October 12, 2016

Many health experts agree that eating seasonally is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy diet and get the most nutrients out of the fruits and veggies that you eat. So, how do you know what’s “in season?” A quick stroll through your local produce section or farmer’s market will quickly show you what’s readily available, not only by the prices (they are lower when something’s in season), but also by the look and feel of the item. For example, have you ever noticed that berries become very expensive towards the end of Fall, but prices drop and... Keep Reading →

Food Brings People to the Table

August 17, 2016

At Green Bar, one of our favorite ingredients to add to every meal is a little love, and we love connecting with our customers through our food. Cesar Chavez was famously quoted saying, “If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him…the people who give you their food give you their heart.” So what is it about food that really brings people together? Here are some reasons why sharing a meal is about way more than just chowing down. Food reinforces culture and tradition. Whether it’s your great grandmother’s recipe for veggie... Keep Reading →

MIGHTY HEALTHY

April 2, 2015

MIGHTY HEALTHY “… To get healthier …” The environmental and equality issues associated with a meat-based diet are secondary to the health-risks of individuals everywhere. While a cleaner environment certainly benefits the health of humans, the actual diet of the individual has immeasurable benefits. A 2015 study from U.S. Health provides new insight into the preventable procedures available to assist in eliminating disease prior to being afflicted.   “Bioactive compounds in plant-based foods interact with cells, enzymes, hormones and DNA which affects gene expression and cell changes — the interaction helps to greatly reduce chronic disease.” – Collective-Evolution.com   A... INHERENT EQUALITY

March 23, 2015

INHERENT EQUALITY “… To save an animal …”   The numbers are hard to stomach: Vegetarian Research Group revealed approximately 7.5 million United States citizens currently partake in an animal product-free diet. PETA announced an annual of 27 billion animals being slaughtered for food. A single human, converted to a vegetarian diet, can save over 100 animals annually. Farmed animals consume over seventy percent of several major grains needed for their consumption; one third of all raw materials and U.S. fossil fuels.   The numbers and facts don’t stop there; a quantifiable amount of detrimental information is available for all... March 17, 2015

A HEALTHY WORKING ENVIRONMENT “Whether you’re here to help the environment …”   Choosing an organic, plant-based diet goes beyond simply avoiding unnecessary toxins and animal byproducts. As a larger section of the world population consciously chooses health over convenience, the residual effects on the environment continue to be exponentially experienced.   Green Bar & Kitchen insists on patronizing locally-sourced farms and vendors whenever possible; both to ensure the freshest products possible while also eliminating the petroleum and toxins associated with cross-country product delivery. Simply put: supporting local business eliminates a heavy carbon footprint while simultaneously growing local economy and... Keep Reading →

Why We Started

February 19, 2013

Four years ago I tragically lost my Mom, just three years after losing my Dad. Living in New York City at age 33, I was suddenly orphaned, became depressed and allowed myself to be caught up in the grind of corporate America. I  kept putting my health, nutrition and spirituality on the back burner. My high-powered job with Equinox fitness clubs was to help  people get healthier but I was living the unhealthiest lifestyle. I knew I couldn’t continue on this path and decided to begin to restore my life and make better choices. The first step was to renew my... Keep Reading →
